Kitchen & Bath Business (KBB) sat down with Caesarstone US President Erik Christensen to discuss the state of the surfaces industry, Caesarstone’s commitment to health and safety, and to get a first look at new innovations and whole home applications the pioneering surface design brand will debut at KBIS 2025.
KBB: Caesarstone has long been a leader in surface innovation. How is the company evolving its approach to materials and surfaces to create a whole home experience?
Erik Christensen: We are committed to continually evolving as ‘The Surface Company,’ pushing the boundaries of design and functionality. Our evolution encompasses the introduction of new materials and formulations that not only enhance the aesthetics of spaces, but also facilitate a cohesive design throughout the home. We brought quartz to the US in 2005, introduced veining innovation technology in 2012, and expanded into porcelain in 2022 and mineral surfaces in 2023, creating new possibilities and design qualities. Now, we are actively developing new applications for our products, including porcelain countertops, cladding, large format flooring, as well as new formulations in quartz and porcelain designed for a variety of environments—from kitchens, to bathrooms, to outdoor and beyond. For KBIS 2025 we’re thrilled to debut these new surfaces including the addition of a crystalline silica free innovation made with up to 80% recycled post-industrial glass. Our mission is to create surfaces that deliver beauty, durability, and sustainability in every room of the home.
KBB: How does Caesarstone contribute to the demand for eco-conscious building projects, especially with your focus on health and safety?
Erik Christensen: Whether it’s architects using our porcelain for exteriors of commercial buildings, or a designer in search of low crystalline silica products, we understand that the market is increasingly seeking materials that meet aesthetic and functional needs while looking for sustainable solutions and adhering to strict health and safety standards. Caesarstone products have always been and will continue to be healthy for the home as well as safe to fabricate with the proper protective measures in place. Our commitment to health and safety is exemplified in our Master of Stone program, a training resource available online for free in 12 languages which provides comprehensive health and safety handling practices for fabricators, as well as our safety data sheets, warning labels, and extensive communications showcasing our dedication to promoting a safe working and living environment. We’re looking forward to announcing some big news at KBIS 2025 about new material innovations that further our dedication to sustainability, health and safety.
KBB: With sustainability becoming a central focus in the design industry, how does Caesarstone balance aesthetics with eco-friendly practices?
Erik Christensen: At Caesarstone, we believe that sustainability and design should coexist beautifully. Our surfaces, including the low crystalline silica models, are crafted from responsibly sourced materials that deliver long-lasting beauty while reducing environmental impact. We are committed to creating products that enhance living spaces and contribute to a healthier planet and we invite our customers to see our evolution as shown in our most recent ESG progress report and on our sustainability page. We aim to be a trusted partner to designers, helping them achieve even their most stringent eco-conscious building goals.
KBB: What trends do you foresee impacting the industry in terms of materials and safety?
Erik Christensen: We are witnessing a significant shift toward sustainable materials that prioritize safety for both consumers and fabricators. Every step we take in evolving our product offerings—from integrating recycled materials to enhancing safety protocols—is part of our commitment to responsible design. The advancements we are making in our material formulations not only align with our commitment to health-conscious design, but also have the added aesthetic benefit of creating enhanced translucency and depth in the final product. We believe that our ongoing innovations, combined with a clear focus on safety, will further shape the future of our industry.
KBB: What are you most looking forward to at KBIS 2025?
Erik Christensen: KBIS is a chance for us to connect with the industry, to hear directly from our customers and clients about their challenges and priorities. Our booth this year will be reinvented to highlight the sustainability innovations driving Caesarstone’s product development. We love debuting our new designs and are always excited to get real-time feedback from the market on our latest introductions. We can’t wait to receive first-hand comments from the people who work with us every day on our new porcelain and crystalline silica free line this year.
